The Swiss
Research Foundation on Mobile Communication (FSM) is a non-profit
foundation approved by the Swiss
Federal Supervisory Board of Foundations. It operates from its
office located in Zurich at the Laboratory for Electromagnetic Fields
and Microwave Electronics of ETH Zurich. It was founded in fall
2002, and in January 2003 it was registered by the Commercial Registry
Office of the Canton of Zurich. The FSM is sponsored by ETH
Zurich, Orange,
Sunrise
and Swisscom. In addition, it is supported by the Swiss Federal Offices
SFOPH
(Office of Public Health), OFCOM
(Office of Communications), FOEN
(Federal Office for the Environment) and the NGO's Konsumentenforum (kf), EWZ,
Stadt Zürich, Swiss Cancer League, Ingeniéur Hôspital Suisse and Swiss Heritage
Society (SHS).

for the COST-Action

| MISSION |
The aim
of the FSM is to promote innovative research projects in the mobile
phone sector in the broadest sense, as well as to collate and distribute
the resulting research findings to scientists and the public at
large.
Scientific project evaluation and decisions about
support are taken by the Scientific Committee
of the FSM that guarantees for neutral, independent and science
based decisions of high scientific quality projects. More about

| FUNDS |
| The research
money comes from a fund. The annual research budget amounts to 550'000
francs basically. In addition to the research fund, the administration,
direction, and services of the FSM are subsidized with max. 250'000
francs per year. |

| RESEARCH
PROGRAMME |
The FSM funds
projects which investigate important questions of public concern to
do with the chances and risks associated with cellular phone technology.
Thematically the projects may concern one or more of the following
research areas (the list should not be considered final): |

in-vitro and in-vivo studies, dosimetry, human studies |
B .. Risk perception &
-communication:
Risk perception, risk communication, risk management, regulatory
issues |
C .. Technology & applied
Research:
Eco-design (LCA's), design of mobile phone infrastructure, schemes
for dismantling, siting issues, measurement problems |
